Apple Dumplings, Oh My!
I’m a huge fan of the Pioneer Woman and this is an all time favorite recipe. It always amazes me when there is a surprise ingredient that just doesn’t seem like it fits in the recipe. In this case it’s Mountain Dew Soda. This is a tailgate favorite for tailgate parties at my college Alma Mater…Butler University.
APPLE DUMPLINGS
Ingredients
- 2 whole Granny Smith Apples
- 2 8-ounce cans of Crescent Rolls
- 2 sticks of butter
- 1 1/2 cups sugar
- 1 tsp vanilla
- Cinnamon to taste
- 1 12-ounce can of Mountain Dew Soda
Instructions
- Peel and core apples. Cut each apple into 8 slices. (this is when an apple corer comes in handy)
- Roll each apple slice in a crescent roll. Place in a 9 x 13 buttered pan. I love using the Pioneer Woman's dishes for this one.
- Melt butter, then add sugar and barely stir. Add vanilla and pour entire mixture over apples.
- Pour Mountain Dew around the edges of the pan. Sprinkle with cinnamon and bake at 350 degrees for 40 minutes.
- In our household a big scoop of vanilla is a must with these dumplings.
