Marilyn’s Apple Cake

 

MARILYN'S APPLE CAKE

Ingredients

  • 2 cups diced peeled apples (Apple of your choice)
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 cup flour
  • 1 egg
  • 1 1/2 tsp cinnamon
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp baking soda
Sauce for Cake
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar well packed
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 tbsp flour
  • 1 cup water
  • 1/4 cup butter
  • 1 tsp vanilla

Instructions

Apple Cake
  1. Mix sugar with apples and let stand until sugar is dissolved.
  2. Add egg and beat well
  3. Stir dry ingredients into apple mixture.
  4. Pour into an 8-inch pan.
  5. Bake at 375 degrees for 40 minutes.
Cake Sauce
  1. Cook sugar, flour and water together until clear.
  2. Add butter and vanilla.
  3. Pour warm sauce over warm cake.

Friends and Family are always asking my Mom for this recipe. It was one of my Dad’s favorite cakes. It’s typically made in the Fall when apples are plentiful at the Orchard. It didn’t have to be Fall for my Dad to request this cake.
